Aruba -- Renaissance Aruba Resort and Casino

February 2010, two-nights, king tower guestroom

Status perks and check-in

I filled out the Virtual Concierge form before our arrival because we would be arriving before check-in time. Apparently, this request had not been processed correctly because our room was not ready before check-in time, even though this hotel was not full. The front desk employees kept telling us to return in an hour or so, so we returned to the front desk three times before being assigned a guestroom. Staff members were cordial, and in the end we received two rum punch beverage coupons, and two breakfast coupons. I am not sure if we received these perks because of my frequent traveler status, or if it was because the guestroom was not ready until later.

We had a guestroom on one of the higher floors overlooking the side patio and cruise port. I was glad we did not receive a room overlooking the inside lobby of the hotel.

The bed and chairs were comfortable, although the room was not very big. There was a sliding glass door, which opened to a very small balcony just large enough to stand on. There was a fridge in the room as well as bathrobes and slippers. I did not use the Internet during our 2-night stay.

Pool & Beach

The pool at the Renaissance Aruba Resort and Casino was a rectangular pool with nice lounge chairs and cabanas overlooking the marina and cruise port. There was also a larger lagoon pool at the Marriott (full service family suites) across the street.

private island

A complimentary water taxi picked up guests inside the Renaissance lobby for the ride to the private island. The private island is beautiful, and the boat ride was enjoyable.

There was a store, towel hut, facilities, fitness center, Spa, and restaurant/bar on the island. There was an adults only beach area with full service food & beverage service.

Restaurants & Lounge

The food and beverages on the island were good quality and the prices were reasonable. Happy Hour in the Renaissance lounge was also a great value. Good quality beverages were available with two-for-one prices.

The calamari was excellent. The breakfast we received with our breakfast coupons was outstanding! It included made to order eggs and omelets, fresh meats, cheeses, fruits, breads, mimosas, and other beverages. The cost with tip (if you are not on the all inclusive plan or do not have coupons, would be around $40 for two). There was also dining options at the Marriott, and on the walkway between the two properties, although we did not visit any of these places.

There was a casino on site and a shopping mall on the bottom floor. Many dining and shopping options were available along the street right out the front door. This resort is located in town near the airport rather than in the resort district at Palm or Eagle Beachs.

We loved the hotel, private island, food and beverages, and plan to visit here again. The quality was excellent. We also received an ice bucket of beers and a bowl of deluxe mixed nuts delivered to our room for liking this hotel page on Facebook!
