Lafayette, Indiana: Homewood Suites

September 2022, weekdays, 3 nights, building 3, king 1-bedroom 335

Check-in and arrival

This hotel has three buildings. I prefer top floor guestrooms, so I chose floor 3 in building 3 when I checked in on the app. You can, however, have a top floor guestroom on the second floor in buildings 1 and 2. Buildings 1 and 2 are closer to the lodge, and the three buildings are not connected. In hindsight, I wish I had taken a bit more time to look at the hotel building layout.

This guestroom is a corner room, and the view faces east. There were screens in the windows, which could be partially opened. We were glad to be able to open the windows, as the room had a strong perfume odor when we arrived. We had our room cleaned once during our stay, and fortunately, the scent was not present when we returned that day.

The guestroom was spacious and comfortable for the most part. The kitchen contained everything we needed, and everything was functional. There was a table with two chairs (at the end of the sofa across from the kitchen area) that is not visible in the photo above.

The bed sheets felt like low quality sheets and were scratchy the first two nights. They did not feel as bad the last night. I could not tell if housekeeping had changed the sheets, or if I just got used to it.

Although this guestroom met our needs this trip, I would not choose this room again. The music from the car wash next door was particularly annoying--it woke us up at 6AM everyday, and played all day until 11PM.

Food & beverages

The included breakfast at this hotel was probably the worst I have ever experienced at this type of hotel. Foods are usually better at Homewood Suites, Residence Inn, and Staybridge Suites, than at Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, and Fairfield Inn. The breakfast foods at this hotel were cold, low quality, and not fresh. The evening social on Wednesday, on the other had, was great. Foods in the evening included soup, many fresh vegetables, chips, cheeses, hummus, vegetable dip, and more. The beer and wine were low quality.

There are many dining choices close to this hotel. Nearby Logan's Roadhouse was a huge disappointment, and Lafayette Brewing Commonly downtown was impressive. The food and beverages at the brewery were all delicious, and the prices were fair. We had two premium beers, Santa Fe [entree] Salad, and three pork tacos with chips and fresh salsa. Our total was $21 before tip.

We walked the paved trail along Wabash River, which is easy to get to from a downtown parking spot.

Misc. and overall

I do not have any serious complaints about this hotel; however, I do think the Staybridge Suites we stayed in the year before is a much nicer hotel. It is newer, and the provided foods were much better. I chose a different hotel for this trip, as I was trying to earn Hilton points and maintain my diamond status. Not always the best way to choose a hotel, I know...
