Bay City, Michigan: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Breweries, and more

 November 2022, weeknight, one night, suite 431

Other than the fabulous suite upgrade, this stay was similar to previous stays. I have previously stayed in this hotel with gold and diamond status, and have always received an upgrade to a river view room. This time, when I looked on the app before arrival, our room assignment was a suite on floor 4. I had noticed that there is also a suite on floor 5; however, I did not try to exit the current room assignment to see if that one was available. I did not want to take a chance of losing the suite we had been assigned!

We stopped at the front desk to get an extra key, cookies, and water when we arrived. The front desk agent did not say anything about breakfast, so I asked if I just needed to provide the guestroom number for breakfast. She said yes, although she did not recap how much I would receive. Our entire meal was comped the next day.

Suite 431 is at the end of the hall with a private balcony. Two chairs were provided on the balcony. The guestroom was spacious and comfortable. I thought the suite was in need of an update/refresh, although overall, this was a great room.

I forgot to take photos of the entryway, which included: a large window facing the river, closet with safe, and beverage center (sink, small fridge, coffeemaker with supplies).

The bathroom had a walk-in shower, and standard amenities were provided. A chaise lounge was located in the bedroom/living area, along with a work desk and chair. A large flatscreen TV was on the armoire across from the bed, and there was a small microwave in this area.

The pool area was the same as our previous visit, and breakfast was delicious. I observed signage for beverage specials and Happy Hour in the lounge, although we did not visit there in the evening.

Local breweries

We love to visit Tri-City Brewing Company whenever we are in Bay City. The beers are great, and so is the service and atmosphere. This location has discounts in Hop Passport, and Reel Craft Pass. When I visit a brewery, I prefer a sampler, rather than a 16 oz. beer; however, samplers are usually more expensive, and a sampler discount is not offered in the passport booklets. Tri-City Brewing is one of a few breweries who have let us use our 50% discounts on a sampler! 😊 We also tried to visit Loggers Brewing Company in Saginaw on our way home the next day; however, they were closed. We spent some time hiking and such on the way there, as their open time on Fridays is 1:00 PM. When we arrived, we observed a sign on the door that said they were closed because of a water problem. 😞 We liked this brewery last time we visited, and were disappointed we did not get to visit this year.
