Cuero, Texas: Holiday Inn Express and Suites

This guestroom is located on the second floor of this three-story hotel. It is on the front side of the building overlooking the parking lot and pool.

The king study suite was as described on the hotel website. Although the guestroom was clean, the comfort and sleep quality in this hotel was not good. The bed was very, very hard, and the walls are paper thin. Fortunately, the few neighbors we had were quiet for the most part. If this hotel had been more full, I am not sure I would not have gotten any sleep at all. One thing I liked about the guestroom, is that we were able to completely turn the HVAC unit off.  So many hotels have the unit set to run continually, to circulate the air, even when it is turned off.

Food and beverage

The breakfast offered at this hotel was one of the most dismal displays I have ever seen. You can see in the photo above that the fruit and oatmeal area was bare. There was no fruit of any kind (fresh or otherwise). Although there were a few cartons of milk in the cooler, there were no hard boiled eggs. The scrambled eggs in the heated dish were not hot, and there was only one stale looking cinnamon roll. Luckily, I had some dinner leftovers from the night before.

Misc. and overall

There were not many hotel or dining choices in this town. The only name brand hotels I observed were this Holiday Inn Express, and a Fairfield Inn less than a mile away, which did not look like a better property from the outside. I realize exterior appearances do not account for everything. Although the Holiday Inn Express looked inviting from the outside, the guestroom comfort did not meet my needs. 

After considering the limited nearby restaurant choices, we opted to get dinner from the deli in the grocery store down the road, Brookshire Brothers. I should have taken a dinner photo, as the smoked half chicken was very good!
