Florida: Jacksonville Airport Hilton Garden Inn

January 2023, weekend, one night

Arrival and diamond perks

Our check-in experience at this hotel was not the best. We arrived around 2:45 PM, and the agent said our room would not be ready until after 4:00 PM (check-in time). He did not confirm any details after he requested my name, and he did not offer a different available room. I had checked in on the app, and I did not receive any notifications from this hotel, even after our room became available.

After he had said it would be awhile, we walked around the hotel to check out the pool area, and the activity on our guestroom floor, before we sat down in the lobby. We observed housekeeping cleaning guestrooms near the elevator on our floor, so we assumed they were working toward the end of the hall, where our room was located.

I then returned to the front desk to ask for the wifi code, because my phone was not working. The agent said this area is in a "dead zone," and that often happens. He apparently started checking on our room at some point after we had first arrived, because when I returned to the lobby, I received a notification that the credit card authorization had gone through. A few minutes after this, the agent called out to us, and said our room was ready. This was before 3:00 PM, so not much time had passed since we arrived. When we got to our floor, housekeeping was still cleaning in the same area. It appeared to us, that our room had been ready when we arrived.

Guestroom 526

I chose this guestroom because of the diagram on the Hilton app, and the diagram is incorrect. There are two more guestrooms at the end of the hall next to rooms 526 and 525.

Other than the incorrect diagram on the app, the guestroom included the usual HGI amenities: coffeemaker with supplies, microwave, small fridge, 2 queen beds, flatscreen TV, suitcase bench, work desk and chair, and a soft chair.

The bathroom was a decent size, and towels had been provided for three.

The best thing about this hotel was housekeeping. The guestroom was very clean, and the housekeeper even went to the front desk to get us extra coffee when she did not have any more on her cart. We thought the view was nicer on this side of the building, rather than facing the road.

Pool area, shuttle, misc.

We observed considerable debris around the pool area, and the whirlpool was cold when we walked around while waiting for our guestroom. When we received our guestroom keys, we learned the whirlpool was closed (I do not recall the reason why. It had something to do with not being up to standards when it had been checked the day before.). The pool and whirlpool is visible from guestroom 526, if you look directly down.

Airport shuttle for Hilton Garden Inn Jacksonville airport

We drove to this hotel, and our son arrived via air from JAX a few hours later. The shuttle service was prompt, and the ride was less than 10 minutes one-way.

We chose this hotel because we wanted to be near the airport for our son's arrival, and it is not far from the cruise port. We stayed at a different airport hotel after our cruise, which turned out to be even worse than this stay. We walked through a few of the other properties nearby, and the Home2Suites behind HGI looked like the best option. However, since we were going to have an entire day with the three of us, we decided to stay at Residence Inn, since it was the only property in the area with two bedrooms, and a full kitchen. Also, I expected the Marriott property to be better. The customer service was better; however, that was the only improvement. I will be sharing that info soon.

Let me know if you have any questions!
