Detroit, Michigan: Hotel Indigo, downtown

November 2022, weekday, one night, king guestroom, floor 10?

We stayed in this hotel with a free night certificate, and I do not recall our guestroom number. We were on floor 10 or 11, and the view faced east toward Campus Martius Park.

Arrival and platinum perks

I received 600 bonus points at check-in. The agent did not say anything to me about this; I received the email notification that the points had been deposited before we checked out.

Guestroom

The guestroom was comfortable and clean. The bed was super comfy. Although there was plenty of room for a chair in the guestroom, the only seat provided was the desk chair.

The bathroom shower was nice, although the vanity and toilet area was small and cramped. There was not enough room for toiletries on the bathroom counter. A small fridge and K-cup coffeemaker were located in the entry area across from the bathroom. I was surprised there was not a safe in the closet next to the beverage center.

Parking, downtown, misc.

The only parking offered by this hotel is $35 a day for valet parking. You can self park in the public lot behind the hotel, and the price varies, depending on events in town. The rate was $30 for 24 hours the night of our stay.

This hotel is in a good location for walking along the river, and to events downtown. We were able to walk to Founders Brewing Company, which is near Little Caesars Arena. We liked the inside setup of this brewery better than the one in Grand Rapids; however, we did not like the way payments were processed. We were seated at a table in the dining room, and the server wanted our credit card to start a tab when we ordered our first item (we ate, and had beers using our Reel Craft Pass). At the end of the visit we had to request the check, and then he only brought the credit card receipt to sign. We thought the amount seemed high, and it was. After requesting the itemized receipt from him, we then had to wait for the manager to correct our check. There was a game at the arena the night of our stay, and there were many people in this area when we walked back toward the hotel.

Combination plate and wet burrito at Loco's Tex Mex Grille in Detroit, Michigan

Greektown is less than a mile away from the hotel. We had lunch at Loco's Tex Mex Grille in this area. We chose this location because we had a discount coupon. The food was okay, although I would not classify it as authentic Mexican fare. It was also quite expensive. Even though we visited during lunch on a weekday, this location did not offer a lunch menu. It is a couple of blocks from Hotel Indigo to Detroit Riverwalk, which connects to the trail in William G. Milliken State Park. We watched a couple of freighters on the river during our morning walk.

Let me know if you have any questions!
