Cadillac, Michigan: State Park, Dining, Brewery

June 2022, 2 nights, weekdays

William Mitchell State Park, Campsite 36

We have stayed in this campground many times before, and you can find more park details in my previous posts by typing the park name in the search box, or clicking on one of the labels at the bottom of this post. We made our reservation last minute, and initially booked campsite 11, as there were not many sites left. When we arrived, we asked about open sites, drove through the park, and then changed to campsite 36. We had a decent view of the lake our first evening, as there was only one campsite taken between us and the lake.

Campsites 38 (tent on left) and 36 in William Mitchell State Park in Cadillac

The next day, not only did campers set up camp on the site next to us, they also put their tent partially on our site! We were annoyed with the intrusion; however, since we only had one more night, we did not talk to them about moving it. Even more rude about them doing this, is that they were camping with the people on the other side of them on campsite 40. There are no obstacles on the large site that they had (entirely visible in my top photo above), so there was no reason for them to put their tent where they did.

Recreation: hiking, biking, swimming, lake, fishing

There were many people at the small swimming beach in the campground the day we arrived. There is a second swimming area and beach at this park across the road on Lake Mitchell. There is an underpass under M-115 connecting the two areas.

We biked to town one day. The paved trail from the park only goes to Kenwood Heritage Park, and then the rest of the route is a bicycle lane. The speed limit is only 35 MPH most of the way, and traffic was light. The hiking trail and center across North Blvd were also a great visit. See my previous posts for photos and info of that area. We did not fish or boat this stay, although we observed many others doing so.

Pastie from Mr. Foisie's next to Mitchell State Park in Cadillac

Dining, downtown, misc.

The campground host came to our site after our first night, and said our campsite number had been drawn to receive a free pastie from Mr. Foisie's Pasties next door. This was the first time we have had a pastie, so we were excited to try it. Good thing we changed sites! 😄 The pastie was delicious, and I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Clam Lake Beer Company in Cadillac, Michigan

We visited Clam Lake Beer Company for lunch and to use our half price sampler coupon in Michigan BrewVine Passport. The food and service was excellent. It was my birthday, and we also received complimentary dessert.

Let me know if you have any questions!
