Ludington, Michigan: The Lamplighter Bed & Breakfast

April 2022, The Lamplighter Bed & Breakfast, Carpenter Room, 1-night, weekday

If you want to stay near downtown Ludington, the choices are small inns/motels, bed and breakfast type lodging, or a rental property through places like AirBnB. The closest campground, Cartier Park, is about 1½ miles from town. More campgrounds and chain hotels are located outside of town. Although we do not often stay in bed and breakfast lodging, we chose The Lamplighter Bed & Breakfast because it is only a few blocks from town, and the reviews were all excellent.

Reservations and arrival

I made our reservation with Jen over the telephone. You can also make a reservation online; I called because I had a couple of questions. Check-in is between 4PM and 6PM, and we arrived shortly after 4:00. Jen provided a warm welcome, a brief overview of the amenities, and area information, as needed.

The Carpenter room is also room #1; the first room at the top of the stairs on the second floor. We did not have any trouble getting to the room with our one small bag. Jen and Dan both offered assistance with luggage during our stay, if needed. This guestroom looked exactly as described and pictured online. I loved the silky soft sheets and pillow quality. The guestroom was comfortable and incredibly clean.

Plush bathrobes were provided, along with bath amenities: soap, shower gel, shampoo, and a hairdryer. We were the only guests the night of our stay, and we had a peaceful evening.

Food and beverage

A microwave and small fridge were located outside the guestrooms on floor 2. The fridge was stocked with complimentary sodas and water. There was a deluxe beverage area on the main floor with hot beverages and snacks (homemade fruit bars) available 24-hours.

Breakfast at The Lamplighter Bed & Breakfast

Breakfast in the morning included two courses: baked pear halves with homemade granola, and poached eggs on homemade bread. Foods were local, fresh, good quality, and delicious! I cannot say enough good things about the food and beverages that are included with the guestroom at this property.

Additional amenities that were also provided in the breakfast room and refreshment area on the main floor included: fresh ice, wine glasses, and disposable plates with napkins and eating utensils.

Common areas, misc., and overall

There are two social areas on the main floor: a room with a large flatscreen TV, magazines, books, and soft seats, and there are two comfy seats in front of the fireplace next to a large picture window in the second room. The foyer included items like umbrellas for use, and local area pamphlets. There is also an outside gazebo area, although we did not spend any time outside.

(I recommend Kind of a Big Dill, instead!)

It was an easy walk of less than ¾ of a mile to town from this location. Ludington Bay Brewing Company and Jamesport Brewing Company were both fairly busy when we visited Thursday evening. It was not so busy that we had to wait for a table, although the situation may have been different if we had arrived a bit later. Ludington Bay Brewing Company is listed in the HopPassport and Reel Craft Pass, and Jamesport is in Reel Craft Pass. The S.S. Badger dock, and the Lake Michigan beach area are a bit farther than town, yet still walkable. It is about one mile one-way to either of those locations from The Lamplighter.

We were very happy with our lodging choice, and would definitely stay at this property again. Let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to share this post!
