Lake Linden, Michigan: Village Campground on Torch Lake in the Upper Peninsula

October 2020, 3 nights, weekend-weekday, campsite 27

Reservations and arrival

I do not recall how I found this campground. I viewed the village page online, looked at the campground on google maps, and then called to make my reservation. There is not an online reservation system, and payment can only be made by cash or check. The rate was $25 a night for water and electric hook up. Our reservation and check-in experience was excellent. Initially, we had planned to stay for only two nights on weekdays, and then our travel plans changed, and we needed to change our dates to Friday - Monday for three nights instead. Campground host Shirley gladly accommodated our needs.

Campsite 27

Friends of ours decided to stay at this campground for the first two nights of our stay, so we parked facing each other. After they left on Sunday, we turned our camper around, so we were no longer facing campsite 26. The campground host did not have a problem with us doing this.

Campsite 27 is the very last site at the end near the hiking trail. We loved this site, and would definitely choose it again. We actually thought all of the campsites in this campground were nice.

The rustic sites have beautiful views from up on the hill overlooking the lake.

Recreation

We had planned to bring our inflatable boat or kayaks to go out on the lake; however, the temperature turned unseasonably cold right before we left home, so we we did not bring any of our boats. We hiked the easy trail along the lake next to the campground, which was about a 2.5 mile loop. We did not see any wildlife, although we did see deer tracks. There is a frisbee disc course at the northwest end of the trail.

Bete Grise Preseve

We took a color tour drive along Keewanaw Bay up to Bete Grise Preserve and Brockway Mountain, and then drove back down along Lake Superior. This was an amazing drive! We hiked a couple of trails in the preserve, and we stopped at a couple of falls: Haven Falls and Eagle Falls. We missed Hungarian Falls, located very close to the campground. We did not learn about Hungarian Falls until the day we left. I guess that gives us another reason to return! 😊

I am sharing a few more photos, and a map of our color tour drive.

Misc. and overall

Lake Linden Village Campground is a beautiful place. It was peaceful, friendly, and the campsites are a decent size. We will definitely choose this campground next time we are in the area. It was easy to get to many natural sites nearby, and if it had been warmer out, we would have enjoyed the lake more.

Let me know if you have any questions. Happy travels!
