Iron Mountain, Michigan: Rivers Bend RV Park and Campground

Reservations and arrival

This campground is similar to the one where we stayed in Lake Linden, in that it does not have a website or reservation system, and you can only make payment by cash or check. The caretaker was helpful choosing a site for us when we arrived, although we later wished we had asked him if we could have walked around to choose a site. I had made a reservation for a full hookup site, as this is always easier than stopping at the dump station when leaving. When we walked through the campground that evening, we noticed that some of the power and water sites (without sewer hookup) were more private or had partial views of the river.

Campsite 115

Most of the campers in this campground appeared to be permanent/seasonal campers. In fact, solid wooden RV steps with a railing were on our campsite, as a seasonal resident had just vacated the site. The edge of the steps is barely visible in the photo above. Most of the permanent campsites were along the river. Campsite 115 is on the top of the hill, which did give a nice view; however, the site was not very big, and we felt kind of close to our neighbors. The site had a concrete pad, and thick green grass. The cost for a full hookup site was $34 a night.

Misc. and area info

Laundry facilities are available in the park, and the cost was reasonable: $1 for the washer and $1.50 for the dryer. There is a short hiking trail around the small pond and lake behind the office, which we did not have an opportunity to walk. 

We dined at the Holiday Kitchen on US-2, and the food was very good. I thought I saw another RV park sign on US-2 near Rivers Bend pointing down Bass Lake Road; however, I cannot find any information about another campground close to Rivers Bend. If anyone has any info, please share it!

Hiking back to Dave's Falls

We drove into Wisconsin from this campground one day, which was an easy and pretty drive. We stopped at Dave's Falls, about 45 minutes south of the campground. There is a charge to enter the county park; however, there is also free parking next to Pike River on 141 near the park. That was not the reason for our trip; it just happened to be on our way. We enjoyed great views of a bald eagle on the side of the road during this drive; however, I did not get good photos.
