Bay City, Michigan: DoubleTree by Hilton Bay City Riverfront

March 2019, weekend, one-night, king riverview guestroom 602

Diamond perks and check-in

My room had been upgraded to a king riverview guestroom when I checked in on the app, so I chose a guestroom on the top floor. I also received bottled water and breakfast for two. The agent at the front desk said that if I wanted more water, to just let them know.

I chose this guestroom because it is on the top floor at the end of the hall. It is actually a tad smaller than the other guestrooms, because it has a small notch out of the corner, which I had not noticed in the app floor plan. This is easily visible on the guestroom diagram below. Guestroom 630 at the opposite end of the hall looks a tad bigger, so I plan to chose that guestroom, if it is available for our next stay.

One nice thing about guestroom 602 is that the elevator that goes to the pool area and fitness center is at this end of the hall.

Although our guestroom was not very spacious, it was clean, comfortable, well soundproofed, and we loved the view.  It contained all the needed amenities, including a small fridge, microwave, and safe. I wonder if all DoubleTree hotels are being updated to include these items, as I recently learned that a fridge and microwave are being added to all guestrooms at the DoubleTree in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I am sharing more photos below, which show the guestroom features. There was not any bottled water in the guestroom when I arrived, and I got this from front desk staff.

The bathroom was spacious, and the amenities were good quality. It contained a tub/shower combination.

Food & Beverage

Breakfast was excellent. We had the choice of the full breakfast buffet, or ordering a la cart from the menu. Food items on the breakfast menu were a fair price, and we would have dined here even if our breakfast had not been included. We both ordered from the menu. Everything was fabulous; the service, food quality, and flavors.

Pool area

The pool and fitness center are located on the bottom floor. The elevator is located at the north end of hall, and the location is visible in the room diagram photo near the top of this post. Cups were provided on a table outside the fitness center and pool, where a sign said no glassware is allowed in the pool area.

There is a spacious outside patio accessible from the inside pool and hot tub. This was not in use during our stay, as the weather was still cool. The pool area is attractive. Seating was comfortable, and the water temperate was good.

Misc. and overall

We loved this hotel, and plan to visit again in the fall. Bay County Riverwalk Trail is accessible from the hotel, and there are several food & beverage locations within walking distance. I will have a separate blog post with information about the trail system and local area.
