Sunset from Shoreline Inn penthouse suite 1011 |
If you follow my blog, you have probably read plenty of info the last few years about the many wonderful places to visit in Muskegon, Michigan! This is a brief post to share a bit of new information, including a few new pictures from a new room [for us] at Shoreline Inn. Be sure and click the labels at the end of this post to find additional information about areas of interest.

Ascend hotel collection member ~ Shoreline Inn, penthouse suite 1011
We redeemed points for this stay on Sunday evening between Christmas and New Years. A friend of mine told me he has difficulty finding this room type available for a Saturday night. That may because I think there are only two penthouse suites like this: 1011 and 1003. We have also stayed in suite 1009, which is on the corner like 1003 and 1011, and that suite does not have a whirlpool tub. We have not stayed in suite 1005, so I am not certain if that suite is the same as 1009. The best guestroom diagram can be found at the bottom of my blog post for suite 1009 in December 2017.

This guestroom was just as comfortable as the others we have stayed in, and the view was fabulous. There were a couple of minor differences: suite 1011 did not have any potholders, nor as many utensils in the drawer as suite 1003; and there were no doors across the tub, so the bathroom was completely open from the kitchen and living room area. My husband thinks suite 1003 is larger than suite 1011; however, I tend to think it is just the slightly different layout that makes it appear roomier.
The first time we stayed in a Penthouse Suite at Shoreline Inn, there had been a bathrobe in the guestroom. This time, I was told bathrobes are provided upon request only.

Shoreline Inn is the only Ascend collection property we have stayed in, so far. I am looking forward to our experience in March at another Ascend property, which looks just as fabulous--Hotel Morrison, FLL airport!

Downtown: Happy Hours, Rad Dad's, Pigeon Hill, 18th Amendment
We visited Rad Dad's Taco & Tequila Bar for the first time, which had not been previously open on Sundays or Mondays. During the month of December, they hosted a "donations" brunch on Sundays.
We were mildly confused about the seating and ordering process, when we first arrived. It appeared that the only food available was the donations brunch. We decided to try the brunch and a Bloody Mary at seats in one of the outside igloos.
Rad Dad's December brunch |
It was warm and comfortable inside the igloo. The beverage quality was good, although I am not sure what I think about the food. I imagine this brunch buffet was probably not the best time to try their food for the first time. The flavors were good; however, the meat was much too greasy for me. Service was very good once we figured out the process.
Pigeon Hill usually has a Funday Sunday special tapping, which we had hoped to enjoy; however, they did not have anything this Sunday. 😢 Another favorite location, Smash Wine Bar & Bistro was not open on Sundays or Mondays in December.
18th Amendment Spirits Company |
18th Amendment Spirits Company was packed when we visited in the early evening! There were no open seats--not even at the bar. A server helped us set up chairs at an extra table near the register. We each had one of their signature cocktails, shown in the photo above: Davis Gold (like a Dirty Martini), Dutch Anderson, and a specialty [Moscow] Mule. I do not recall the speciality name of the Mule beverage, and I do not see it listed on their online menu. The service, and all of the beverages were excellent!
I am sharing a couple photos of the Happy Hour menu, which runs Tuesday - Friday from 3PM - 6PM.
