Lansing, Michigan / Hyatt Place Lansing Eastwood Towne Center

March 2016, Weekend, 1-night, King guestroom 402

Arrival and status perks

I redeemed points for a room with one king bed. My profile preference is for a high-floor guestroom; however, I was not sure if my points stay would cover a high floor room, as the cost was $5 more. My status was Platinum at the time of this stay. The information on the Hyatt Place Eastwood Towne Center website does not show the guestroom square footage, and I could not figure out why the guestrooms on higher floors would cost more (it's not like there was a view of anything other than the shopping center). The only difference in the photos on the website were the bathrooms; the king bathroom photo showed a walk-in shower, and the high floor king bathroom photo was of a tub/shower combination. I usually think a walk-in tile shower with a glass door is nicer, so I did not understand why a walk-in shower guestroom would cost less. Also, the guestrooms with two queen beds were $10 less than king rooms. Again, this logic confused me, as two beds often means more guests for breakfast and more guests to clean up after.

Check-in time is 3:00 p.m, which is about the time we arrived. We waited a couple of minutes behind two other guests, as there was only one agent working at the front desk when we arrived. Another employee arrived at the front desk about the time it was our turn. The hotel was very busy, so when we checked in, I told the agent we would prefer a room on the top floor in a quiet area, like a corner. We did not receive a guestroom on one of the top floors, although she did assign us a great corner room.

Guestroom 402

When you get to the end of the hall on the 4th floor, there is a short hall (think T shape) with three guestrooms. This is where room 402 is located. It is at the northwest end of the building.

The guestroom was comfortable, clean, and well soundproofed. The complimentary wireless Internet connection speed was great.

The entrance area included a desk chair with work space, and a wardrobe closet. The closet contained hangers, a folding luggage rack, iron, ironing board, and extra bedding. A full length mirror was mounted on the outside of the wardrobe closet door.

An ethernet cable, telephone, logo notepad, and pen were on the desk. There were plenty of electrical outlets. The side arm/tabletop contained a single serve coffee maker with supplies and ceramic coffee mugs.

The bathroom was located across from the wardrobe closet. A sliding pocket style door separated the toilet and shower from the vanity area. The spacious shower was tile with glass doors.

Kenet, MD bathing amenities were provided on the vanity, and a hairdryer was located on one of the shelves. The towels were good quality.

The sofa located next to the desk was comfortable. A large footstool and a hanging lamp completed the sitting area.

A large flatscreen TV was mounted on the wall above an armoire at the foot of the bed. This was visible from the sofa and desk. There were two large windows in the guestroom; one on each side of the armoire. An ice bucket, glass glasses, a room service menu, and a rolled blanket/throw were on the armoire.

The king size bed contained four pillows. The bed was super comfy!

Food & Beverage

Breakfast is included with the guestroom at Hyatt Place hotels. The breakfast foods were typical hotel buffet foods: powdered or boil-in-the-bag scrambled eggs, sausage, breads, fresh fruit, oatmeal, cereals, milk, hot beverages, and juices. A couple of nice things offered at this hotel included actual whole-grain bread (the bread contained seeds and grains, and it was delicious), whole-wheat bagels, and old-fashioned oatmeal, rather than instant oatmeal. I thought the iced countertop that held the butter and other condiments was clever. I am surprised I have not seen this in more hotels.

This hotel also had a small bar, and food was available for purchase. Looking at the room service menu, I thought the prices were typical inflated hotel prices. The beer prices looked comparable to the beer prices at the nearby locations in Eastwood Towne Center, although the cost of the other items looked higher.

Pool and outside sitting area

When we checked in, the agent told us this hotel has a salt water pool. It does not have a whirlpool tub. There is a photo of an outside sitting area on the hotel website. We did not visit the pool or other recreation areas, so I do not have further information about these amenities.

Misc. and overall

There is a covered parking garage next to the hotel, and there is no charge for parking. The elevator in the parking garage will take you down to the ground floor, and you need your key to access the hotel through the door across from the elevator. You can also walk outside at this level, and around to the front entrance, if you park before checking in.

The hotel is located in Eastwood Towne Center, which is an outside shopping and dining complex. It was very easy to walk across Showtime Drive to the center, as there is not much traffic on Showtime Drive. We did some shopping, and we visited Mitchell's Fish Market for Happy Hour.

We were very happy with this hotel and the surrounding area. The hotel was less than a year old at the time of our stay, and it looked like there will be more businesses nearby in the future. I was surprised that a couple of things in the hotel looked a bit worn for the short time the hotel had been open. I observed several dings and scratches in the lower part of the guestroom door, and the room service menu was dirty and crinkled.
